The Building and Maintenance Departments consist of the following City Services which provide internal services and maintenance for City buildings, vehicles and infrastructure: 

This department is assigned with court-ordered personnel through Magistrate and Municipal Courts to perform a variety of tasks, which include litter and debris pickup throughout all city streets and parks. The department also mows and trims grass and weeds along city right-of-ways and on city-owned property, and assists all other Public Works Departments by providing any unskilled labor needed to accomplish their assigned tasks.

CONSTRUCTION

The Construction Department’s objective is to perform maintenance on city-owned buildings and other facilities. The Construction Department has sixteen employees with journeyman level skills in the following areas:

  • Block/Brick laying
  • Carpentry
  • Cement and concrete finishing
  • Plumbing
  • Painting
  • Plastering
  • Masonry
  • Heavy Equipment Operation
  • Drywall

The Electrical Department is a service department. It is divided into three (3) divisions based upon the types of services performed: Electrical, Electronics and HVAC. Their primary duties are to install, maintain and repair all of the City’s needs. This department also assists other departments with special projects.

Garage

The City of Carlsbad Garage Department is made up of a crew of highly skilled personnel. They are responsible for the maintenance and repair of every piece of equipment and vehicle in Public Works departments. This maintenance consists of comprehensive and preventative maintenance, emergency service calls to troubleshoot and repair.


It is the Garage Department’s commitment to the community to keep the vehicles and equipment that provide many public services in good working order.
