Update 12/20/23

We know that the new “C” on top of the water reservoir on C Hill, and the Caveman and Cavegirl on both sides of the letter, have already attracted quite a bit of notice. The project was painted by local muralist Michael Fish, while Dale Davis did the original coat of paint on the city’s water reservoir. A company called Electromatics handled most of the installation, while Carlsbad’s own Murrill Electric is responsible for lighting up the letter.

In case you are wondering, the new letter is 49 feet wide and 27 feet tall. We believe this is a great way to celebrate our community and our local mascot.

The City of Carlsbad’s water department and street department also played an important role in the installation of this letter. We also want to thank Deputy Administrator K.C. Cass for all of his hard work on this project. The C should be lit up later this week. Lodgers tax was used to pay for this project, so this funding did not interfere with any infrastructure needs.

The new splash pad is nearing completion as well. In fact, we’ll be holding a ribbon cutting for the splash pad at 3 p.m. Thursday, just a few weeks after the groundbreaking. Thanks to Excerplay for doing such a great job with this project, as well as members of the City of Carlsbad workforce. Of course, we want to give a very special thank you to SIMCO, who made this project possible through a very generous donation. Finally, thank you to the Chamber of Commerce, Valerie Murrill and Susan Crockett for their assistance.

As we have discussed in the past, this splash pad has been specifically designed to accommodate all children, including those with disabilities, much like nearby Friendship Park. We’re proud to continue the legacy started by Wanda Welch, Deanna Taylor, Oran Means, and Former Mayor Gary Perkowski.

You’ll also notice that there’s a lot of construction going on over at the municipal golf course. This will be for a new driving range, similar to the “Top Golf” you may have seen in other communities. This will be another great feature for our beautiful golf course. Due to a few unexpected issues, this project has now been delayed by three or four weeks. This is going to be a wonderful addition to Carlsbad, and we look forward to its completion.

There’s a lot going on around Carlsbad right now, and we appreciate everyone’s hard work.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
