There are many more holiday activities on the horizon, including the Carlsbad High School Winter Festival from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 4. This event will take place on the CHS campus and include snacks, games, face painting, crafts and photos with Santa. The Carlsbad Fire Department will be there providing truck tours, and Carlsbad’s Police Department will be doing fingerprinting with kids. This entire event is free.

The Carlsbad Municipal Schools Music Department’s winter concerts are going on this week and next. The PR Leyva and CHS Choirs are having a concert in the Leyva Auditorium at 7 p.m. Nov. 30. While the two bands will be holding their concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 5. Alta Vista’s band concert will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Alta Vista Main Gym. Finally, the Early College High School Choir will be performing at 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 in the college gym. All of these events are also free and open to the public.

For those of you who enjoyed Carlsbad’s light parade this year, don’t forget that our nearby neighbors are having an event too. The Loving Light Parade will be held on Dec. 9. Anyone who wants to participate should show up to the Loving Municipal Schools Parking Lot at 5 p.m. to get in line. The parade starts at 6 p.m. For more information, please call Fatima or Chastity at the Loving City Hall (575) 745-3511. Loving is also having a “S’Mores with Santa” event at the light parade, following the parade. This event is being hosted by Let’s Have Foam and will take place at Ervell Guevara Park.

The Village of Loving’s Police Department is also holding a Shop with a Cop program this year from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The application process runs through Dec. 8. The applications need to be for children from the ages of 5 through 12. For more information, please contact Frank at (575) 361-4060.

Don’t forget that, for updates on upcoming holiday activities, a group of volunteers have put together a “Hometown Holidays” Facebook page that includes a good list of local events.

In sports news, Carlsbad Cavemen dropped a 52-47 loss to the Eldorado Eagles on Tuesday night’s start to the basketball season. The Cavemen host Alamogordo on Thursday night. The Carlsbad Cavegirls will also open up the season with a game against Alamogordo on Dec. 4.
