Mayor Janway’s Update 9-21-23

This is going to be another very busy weekend in Carlsbad, and there should be something for everyone. Here are a few of the biggest events.

  • Hawgfest: The New Ride” will be taking place Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Eddy County Sheriff’s Posse. Organizer Curtis McKinney’s annual event draws tens of thousands of visitors to Carlsbad and the surrounding area. The focus of the event, over the past few years, has been on the massive carnival as well as a large number of tribute bands. Setup alone has taken several days. For more information about Hawgfest, please visit hawgfest.net. There will also be plenty of food and craft vendors joining in the celebration of the 16th anniversary of this event.

  • Milton’s Brewing is celebrating its 7th Anniversary “Septembeer Fest” on Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. This event will include weiner dog races, a beard and mustache contest, live music, vendors and more. For more information, please visit miltonsbrewing.com. There are several packages for admission. Carlsbad is fortunate to have such a popular location downtown.

  • The City of Carlsbad is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carlsbad Beach. This is a chance to drop off tires, fertilizer, paint thinner, gasoline, cleaning products, anti-freeze, old cell phones and more. For more information, please call (575) 885-0042. There is also a confidential pharmaceutical takeback going on at the same time. This event is residential only- no commercial waste is accepted.

  • Finally, the annual “Walk for Recovery 2023” will be taking place beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Carlsbad Beach Bandshell. The City of Carlsbad is a proud supporter of this event, which will include a candle light vigil in memory of those who have been lost. Thank you to Jennifer Hedrick for putting together this event that focuses on recovery. We will be joining Rep. Cathrynn Brown for a portion of the ceremony. Groups such as Celebrate Recovery, the Eddy County DWI Program and the Carlsbad Lifehouse will also be in attendance.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
