Update 8-24-23

Congratulations to Adon and Patricia Rodriguez, who are celebrating their 60th anniversary. The two married on Aug. 24, 1963, at San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad. Adon and Patricia have three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandson. What really stands out is how so many of their family members are extremely active members of our community. Adon and Patricia also emphasized education, and all of their children and grandchildren went on to obtain a college degree.

Adon spent his career working with the City of Carlsbad Fire Department and then Conoco. Patricia worked at her family business, the Carlsbad Tortilla Factory, and then went on to work at Furrs Grocery Store.

Adon also previously served on the Carlsbad School Board, and he has been a strong advocate for veterans. He has worked tirelessly with the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard, and that organization has been an essential part of our community for many years. The Veterans Honor Guard assists the City of Carlsbad with events throughout the year. He has also been a strong advocate for a veteran’s cemetery. Thanks again to Adon and Patricia for everything they do, and we wish them a very happy anniversary.

Wednesday’s rain was exactly the right kind of rain we need in that it went on for a long time. While there were unfortunately some event cancellations, including the annual powder puff game and the bat flight viewing at the Caverns, the lengthy storm was greatly needed. The airport reports 3/10th of an inch. Let’s hope this weather continues.  Weather forecasts indicate that the next good chance for rain is on Monday.

The Carlsbad Police Department is looking for assistance solving a series of diesel thefts that have taken place around Carlsbad. Several gas stations have reportedly been hit over the past week, including two different Chevron stations and one Phillips 66. This is apparently a very well-organized process, with a white van parking over a diesel lid, allowing those involved to siphon off fuel from beneath the floorboard.

Anyone with information about this, or who knows the two identifies of the individuals involved, is asked to call the Carlsbad Police Department. Tips can be submitted by calling (575) 887-1888, (844) 786,-7227 or visiting eddycountycrimestoppers.com and using the mobile app “P3 Tips.” Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest. We appreciate any help in tracking down these individuals.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
