Update 7-26-23

Here’s an update from the 2023 Southwest Little League Regional Tournament, which began in Waco earlier this week. Carlsbad is representing team New Mexico and played Texas West on Tuesday morning. It’s a double elimination tournament, so Carlsbad will remain in competition no matter what happened on Tuesday. Texas West beat Texas East on Monday.

Carlsbad’s Serenity Medrano was selected to catch the opening pitch of the tournament. The winner of the regional tournament will move on to the 2023 Little League Softball World Series, which begins Aug. 6. We’re proud to support this outstanding local softball team, and we wish them the very best.

The Carlsbad Community Anti-Drug/Gang Coalition will be hosting a special seminar offering parents and other adults a chance to identify current alcohol, drug and concealment trends and identifiers. This is being presented by “Tall Cop” Jermaine Galloway, who will provide the tools, resources and training to combat substance abuse. This includes information on new drugs, pictures and clothing connected to drugs, and potential stash compartments.  This event is open to the community (must be 21 or older) from 8-11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1. at the Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center. It is being sponsored by the Coalition and by Carlsbad Municipal Schools.

Officer Jermaine Galloway stands at 6’9”. He worked in Idaho law enforcement for more than 18 years before moving to Texas. He has trained more than 650,000 people nationwide and internationally. This is a great program for everyone who has concerns about drugs and alcohol.  We hope you’ll be able to attend. Last week, we attended a ribbon cutting for a new business called Poetry In Motion Ultrasound, which is located at 121 S. Canal Suite, Suite B. This new business is run by Diaja Parker, and you can get more information about what services are offered at carlsbadultrasound.com. I enjoyed getting to meet with Diaja and her staff. You can also call and ask any questions at (575) 236-2704.

The website says the new business offers a full range of ultrasound exams, which are read by the radiology team at National Diagnostics. There was a great turnout at the grand opening, and we wish this new business the very best. Carlsbad greatly appreciates additional health care options. Thanks again to the Carlsbad Chamber Ambassadors for supporting this and many other business openings.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
