Update 7-23-23

Carlsbad’s downtown area has two new places to eat. Aquino’s Deli is in the process of opening at 108 S. Canal Street. The deli is owned by Aimee Aquino, who was formerly the chef at the country club. Aimee and Tristan say they will bring authentic Italian Deli style food to Carlsbad, including pizzas, paninis, sandwiches and more. They held a soft opening recently, and it reportedly went very well. For more information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/Aquinosdeli. You can also call them at (575) 885-6657.

Anthony’s Place is located at 104 W. Fox Street (formerly Borracho Tacos) and is owned by the family that has run the OTM Food Truck. The current hours are 4-9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. There are future plans for lunch openings and even party rentals. The menu includes Mexican food, but also items such as spaghetti and Philly steak sandwiches. We understand that there will be additions to the menu on a regular basis, and the restaurant is inviting the public to provide feedback. For more information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/otm.foods.1.

Congratulations to both of these new businesses. Running a restaurant is hard work, but both of these places are being run by very experienced individuals. We know Carlsbad residents will be very excited about having a couple more dining options, especially downtown.

We hope you’ll join us at the Hall of Fame Induction for world champion bareback rider Gary Tucker, which will be held at 11 a.m. July 28 in the Carlsbad Museum. Roxann Johnson will be accepting the plaque on behalf of her father, and several of Gary’s close friends will be sharing some of their memories. We will also be honored to have Voncile King, the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard and Pastor Owen Lofton participate in the ceremony.  Light refreshments will be served as well. This will be the newest entry to our outstanding hall of fame exhibit. Our hall of fame inductions are always free and open to the public.
