Mayor’s Update 6-29-23

We have so many Independence Day events planned that we’re going to need to devote two of these updates to telling you all about all of them. Many members of the community have come together to make sure that we have a great Independence Day celebration, both for our visitors and, most of all, for our residents.

The celebration will actually kick off on Friday, June 30, as that’s the start of the Pickleball on the Pecos tournament. This tournament will continue on Saturday. A wonderful group of sponsors have made all of these events possible.

Saturday is also the first day of our musical events at the Beach Bandshell. We’re calling this part of our celebration “Freedomfest” and the celebration will kick off at 2:30 p.m. with a performance by Redsky. The County Line Band and then the Cody Zane Wells band will follow. We’ll have chairs set up under the bandshell, so you’ll be able to avoid the heat. Last Child will perform at 6:30 p.m. and the very talented Ethan Cole Band will finish things at 7:45 p.m. We don’t have a summer concert series that night, since we have so much going on over by the bandshell. The BLM has also set up a cave for kids to explore, and the “Let’s Have Foam” people will have their foam cannon and gellyball set up in the area for the kids. Finally, we’ll have six food trucks in the area on Saturday, so come out and enjoy yourself.

We have three special events planned for Sunday, June 2. A casual “Cars & Coffee” is being set up on the lawn near the bandshell beginning at 8 a.m. This will be followed by a worship service, featuring Bill and Randy Brooks, at 10 a.m. underneath the bandshell pavilion.

The Brooks Brothers have traveled to over 90 countries singing and ministering to others.  Three years ago, they retired from travel and only perform for special events produced by life-long friends.  We understand that Bill and Randy will also be joined by a third very special guest, Pastor Allen Asbury, at this morning performance. Crestwood will be providing free burritos and coffee, so we hope you’ll join us at the Bandshell that morning.

Finally, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is hosting a GLOW Miniature Golf Tournament at 8:30 p.m. Sunday night at the Lake Carlsbad Miniature Golf Course. This will be a lot of fun and, even if you don’t have a team, we hope you’ll come out to watch.

For tomorrow’s update, we’ll take a little bit more about our planned July 3 and 4 activities.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
