Update 6-28

The City of Carlsbad wishes to offer its condolences to the family and friends of former State Senator Carroll Leavell, who passed away Monday. Leavell was first elected in 1996 and stepped down in 2018. His district included parts of Carlsbad and Eddy County.

He was very instrumental in developing the state’s worker’s compensation laws and worked as an insurance agent. He was an excellent person to work with, as he was always very down to earth, and he was widely respected for his integrity. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in Jal.

The Carlsbad Police Department has recently added some options for ways you can report concerns. This is for non emergency use – please remember that you should always call 911 in the event of an emergency.

In order to contact our Police Department online, please visit the Police Services tab of the Carlsbad Police Department section on the City of Carlsbad website or follow this link: https://cityofcarlsbadnm.com/departments/carlsbad-police-department/police-services/

This is a good place to report incidents such as custody order violations, harassing phone calls, hit and runs, identity theft, lost property, traffic complaints, gas drive offs, internet fraud and other similar incidents.

All cases filed using this police reporting system will be reviewed. If further investigation of a case is needed, you may be contacted. We hope this new service will allow people a good chance to communicate concerns with our police department.

The City of Carlsbad is always looking for more ways to receive suggestions. We also have a community reporting online service available at https://cityofcarlsbadnm.com/departments/3-1-1/. This service is for issues such as reporting code ordinance questions, reporting graffiti or just asking general questions. You can also call our community line at (575) 887-1200.

The City of Carlsbad also has a Facebook page that we use for providing information on what is going on around town. While we are happy to pass on information we receive through Facebook, we do not have a dedicated process for reporting Facebook comments or messages that we receive. Therefore, if you want to be sure you reach us, you are much better using one of services listed above.

Did you know that there’s a service in town allowing you to have a tree planted in memory of a loved one? Planting a tree is a wonderful way to honor the memory of someone no longer with you. A small plaque is put up in memory of the loved one, and the tree celebrates the continuation of life by making one of our parks more beautiful. A donation is required on your end to pay for the tree, but you’ll be able to help us select a location to plant this tree in memory of your loved one. For more information, please contact the City of Carlsbad Parks Superintendent at (575) 885-6262.

Sincerely, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
