SIMCO Donation Allows City to Move Forward with First Phase of Splash Pad Construction

A new splash pad designed to accommodate children with disabilities took a huge step forward in its fundraising effort, thanks to a generous donation provided by Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO).

Members of the SIMCO management team presented the $50,000 donation to Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway and Carlsbad’s City Council during the May 9 Council Meeting.

“SIMCO kicked off fundraising efforts for the splash pad by announcing its support for this outstanding community project,” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway. ”This is one of SIMCO’s many contributions to Carlsbad and the surrounding area, and it is greatly appreciated.”

The splash pad will be open to everyone, but a unique design will make it approachable for children with cognitive or physical disabilities. For example, children in wheelchairs will be able to reach all available features.

“SIMCO understands the importance of giving back and we are proud to partner with the communities where our employees live and work,” said Ken Harrawood, SIMCO’s President and Program Manager.  “Along with Mayor Janway and our city leaders, SIMCO is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all residents of Carlsbad.”

The new splash pad will be constructed in the proximity of Friendship Park, a playground designed to accommodate children with disabilities located in the northern area of the Lake Carlsbad Recreation Area. Thanks to SIMCO’s donation, Mayor Janway said the City can now move forward with the first phases of construction. A fundraiser campaign, set up through the Carlsbad Community Foundation, is ongoing.
