Update 4-20-23

Update 4-20-23

As many in Carlsbad have already heard, we have recently learned that Albertsons Manager David Beaty is moving out of Carlsbad to pursue other opportunities.

This is very sad news for Carlsbad, as Mr. Beaty has been an incredible positive force for good in our community. Beaty currently serves as the current president of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and as vice president of the Heights Lions Club. He also volunteered with Packs for Hunger and Operation School Bell. He’s also the past President of the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad. His enthusiasm for the community has no limits. Local nonprofits knew they could always count on Albertsons to support community efforts, whether it was through the donation of bananas and breakfast burritos or direct assistance through Albertsons’ famous “A-Team,” who would show up to provide volunteer labor.

Both through his professional role and on a personal level, David Beaty is exactly the kind of positive person you want in your community. He will be missed. The good news is that we know David had a lasting impact, both at Albertsons and through his community organizations, and we know all of those groups will continue to support Carlsbad. If you know of someone who is looking to step up and become more involved in the community- Carlsbad could use some help filling all of the roles that were occupied by David Beaty.

We do have some great news in terms of local nonprofits. On Tuesday, the United Way of Eddy County announced that Dr. Missi Currier will be serving as the organization’s interim executive director. On March 30, the United Way offices in Carlsbad announced that they were closed until further notice. Board members later put out a statement that they were in the process of moving forward.

Dr. Currier is well liked across the state, and she’s well respected by both the community and by our area’s industry partners. She will be working closely with the United Way’s board to begin a search for a new executive director, while ensuring that the United Way’s campaign and contributions run smoothly. This is an organization that makes a huge difference in the lives of Carlsbad residents, both by supporting its partners and through its own programs.

Ada Beth Majerus has also joined the staff as the Finance Manager. Majerus’ background includes banking and management experience.

This is a contract with Dr. Currier on an interim basis, which will allow the board to have time to search for a new director. Please contact the organization if you are potentially interested in applying for the position.

Last week, a variety of local volunteers assisted with making sure the United Way’s food distribution program took place, both in Carlsbad and in Artesia. We look forward to assisting the United Way with moving forward in serving our residents.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
