Update 12-8-22

The Carlsbad Cavegirl wrestling team made history this past weekend with their first tournament win. The Cavegirls took first place in the Rio Rancho Southwest Shootout out of the eight teams competing. Cavegirl wrestlers to pick up first place wins were Aubrey Owens, Rosalia Rubio, Neyra Miranda and Danica Medina.

Also competing for the Cavegirls were Andrea Ramirez, Aubrianna Montoya, Mya Cornejo and Kyra Huskey.

The Cavemen finished seventh out of 18 teams. Top finishes included Luke Waters, who went 9-0, Francisco Calderon, who went 8-1, and Marcus Najera, who finished out at 7-2.

Congratulations to Wrestling Coach Mark Pratt and everyone with the program.

In other sports, the Carlsbad Cavegirl varsity basketball team moved up to 5-0 with a commanding 48-11 win over Santa Teresa Monday. State rankings haven’t been announced yet, but you can probably expect the Cavegirls to be near the top of the list.  The Cavegirls will play Cibola on Saturday.

The Carlsbad Cavemen varsity basketball team seems to have overcome some early season jitters. The Cavemen beat Gadsden, 61-28, on Tuesday night and now have a 2-4 record. They are scheduled to play Manzano on Thursday.

We promise a swimming update soon as well.
