The most important news right now is that Tuesday is election day. The Eddy County Clerk’s office is in charge of elections and does an outstanding job. Polls will be open on Nov. 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and eligible voters may cast their ballot at any one of numerous convenience stations around Eddy County. Carlsbad City Hall is not a voting location, but you can see a list of voting locations here. https://www.co.eddy.nm.us/405/Voting-Convenience-Centers-Polls.
This year, voters will have choices on a wide variety of positions, including Governor and U.S. Representative. There are also three state amendments and three bond issues to consider. Eddy County has about 34,000 registered voters – we’d love to see every single one of those cast a ballot this year. If you have any questions about what will be on your ballot, you can also see a sample ballot in advance through the county’s web page. The Carlsbad Cavemen suffered a tough football loss in Farmington over the weekend. The Cavemen staged a furious comeback, but they fell just shy in a 34-33 loss. Eli Asay added 285 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the effort. He scored with less than two minutes remaining, but the Cavemen came up shy in the extra point attempt. Congratulations to head coach Oliver Soukup and all of the Cavemen on a successful season.
Carlsbad’s cross country boys and girls also both competed in the state meet Saturday. Erik Carrasco led the way for the Cavemen with a 43rd place finish as the Cavemen finished 13th overall. Mikayla Jefferson picked up the top finish for the Cavegirls. The Carlsbad Cavegirls had a great comeback season in volleyball, but they did not pick up a seed in this year’s state tournament.

The ceremony to open Gary Niblett’s exhibit at the Carlsbad Museum on Saturday was extremely successful. Around 150 people attended, including several of Niblett’s fellow members of the Carlsbad Hall of Fame – Becky Thompson, John Andrews and Dwight Pitcaithley. Niblett and Patsy Jackson-Christopher both spoke at the reception, and food was provided by HX Chuckwagon. We especially enjoyed hearing about Niblett’s time with Hanna-Barbera and all of the inspiration for his artwork.
Carlsbad Museum Director Dave Morgan and the museum’s staff did an excellent job assisting Niblett with the development of this exhibit. Please visit the Carlsbad Museum when you have time to see it for yourself.
