As you can probably imagine, it’s going to be a very busy week in Carlsbad in terms of fall festivals and Halloween celebrations.
The list of family-friendly activities includes the Harvest Festival at P.R. Leyva (800 West Church) which runs from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 27. You can support this free event by bringing cans for non-perishables for the food drive. Activities include pumpkin decorating, trunk-or-treating, games and a costume contest.
Southeast New Mexico College’s “Spooktacular Trick or Treat” will run from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 27 at the college. This event features trick or treating and a haunted house. Goodlife Senior Living is also having a Halloween Trunk or Treat at 4 p.m. Oct. 27.
MainStreet’s Downtown Fall Festival, beginning at 5 p.m. Oct. 28 at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn. This will include trick-or-treating with local businesses as well as a costume contest. There will also be a movie in the park – Beetlejuice- Oct. 28 at the Halagueno Arts Park. The Village at Carlsbad is also hosting a Halloween Carnival from 5-7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at 3821 National Parks Highway.
The Cavern City Batfest will be celebrated from noon to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Beach Bandshell. Entertainment will include local art vendors, a cave sim and entertainment by DJ G-Money. This event is being hosted by the Creative Carlsbad Arts Council, and candy will be passed out to visitors. The Carlsbad Public Library is also hosting a Halloween Party from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Additionally, the Judge David Redford Memorial Zombie Walk will begin at the Cascades Parking Lot at 6 p.m. on Oct. 29. This is a fundraiser for the Judge David Redford Memorial Scholarship Fund. The zombie walk will end at the Batfest.
The Carlsbad Fire Department will be hosting its annual Trunk or Treat from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 31 at 409 S. Halagueno St. As a reminder, Monday Oct. 31 is also the day in Carlsbad for door to door trick or treating to take place, for families who wish to do so.
These are just a few of the activities going on throughout the week. Numerous local churches, including San Jose Catholic Church, First Assembly, Sunset, Church Street Church of the Nazarene are also hosting truck or treats and fall festivals throughout the week. Most of these organizations have flyers posted on the “Hometown Holiday Facebook page and other locations.

Congratulations to the Carlsbad MainStreet Arts & Cultural District, who was awarded $350,000 for digital projection and sound rehabilitation to the Cavern Theatre. These funds, which were awarded through the New Mexico Economic Development Department and New Mexico MainStreet, will go toward phase 4B of the rehabilitation project.
