Update 10-21-22

One of the highlights of our energy summit every year is the “Spirit of the Oilfield” awards, in which hard working men and women are recognized for going above and beyond in terms of philanthropy and dedication to safety. This year, our judges recognized five individuals as representing the “Spirit of the Oilfield” and a sixth individual also received special recognition. Thanks to our committee members: Aaron Emmert, Clint Cone, Anthony Foreman, Cindy Bryan, James Lackey and Tracy Hughes. Here are 2022’s selections:

Dennis Martinez, who is a regulatory Foreman with XTO Energy, was nominated by Rick Cannon. Dennis has been a leader in the effort toward improving greenhouse gas emissions, and he’s recognized as a global leader on this topic. Dennis is also a veteran who supports veteran’s activities, cleanup and many other efforts.

Frank Fuentes, a production foreman for XTO, was also nominated by Rick Cannon, who writes that Frank is “committed to the safe operation of XTO Energy’s water system and each member of his team returning home safely every day. Frank also volunteers his time as an assistant wrestling coach at Carlsbad High School.

Cesar Retana, a Field Service Technician with Flogistix, was nominated by Bernadette Granger for his work ethic and for never backing down or shying away from a problem. He has been honored as mechanic of the month twice and has shown a sincere commitment to workforce safety and helping with STEM events.

David House was nominated by Beverly Allen. This Chevron employee volunteers at LifeHouse and is passionate in helping those with substance abuse. He teaches Bible study and helps with food distribution. Beverly tells us that David never brags about his service, and truly represents the Spirit of the Oilfield.

Finally, we have Darren Wood, who is a pipe yard supervisor for Mack Chase Energy. Darren was nominated by Noreen Teel, who adds that Wood is also known for his church wagon barbecues. Noreen Writes that Darren is “willing and able to do whatever it takes for his team to succeed.

In addition, we presented a special honor to Sgt. Sammy Clouthier, with the New Mexico State Police, thanks to a nomination from a local business, Kodiak Trucking. Sgt. Clouthier was recognized for going above and beyond the call of duty in making sure that local businesses understand policies and rules. We’ve worked closely with Sgt. Clouthier for many years, and he has always been a hard working and dedicated officer. Congratulations to all of our “Spirit of the Oilfield” recipients.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
