Update 10-19-22

There’s still time to join us at this year’s energy summit, which will begin at 8 a.m. and run until a little after 1 p.m. on Thursday. This is a free event at the civic center annex, and lunch will be provided, thanks to our generous sponsors. In the past, we’ve discussed the agenda for our summit this year. You can check out the agenda here: https://carlsbadfoundation.org/agenda-2/. We will have carts available to help you get from your parking space to the event.  We’re especially excited about weatherman Steve Stucker, who will be our lunchtime special guest.

One of the other important parts of the summit that we haven’t mentioned yet this year is our exhibit displays. We have 24 displays this year, which consists of a combination of sponsors and nonprofits. Exhibits such as Brewer Oil and Southeast New Mexico College will have giveaways or prize drawings. The Friends of the Living Desert booth is giving away a painting by Maggie the Bear. We hope you’ll stop by the Carlsbad Department of Development booth and consider signing a petition in support of WIPP.

Carlsbad Municipal Schools will also have a very important display set up this year at the energy summit. The schools are currently in the process of developing what’s called an Energy Industry Leadership Advisory Committee, with a goal of understanding what skills are needed in the energy workforce. Ultimately, the school district wants to develop an Energy Pathway that will offer students the opportunity to earn Career Technical Education credits. At this point, they are hoping for some support from local energy industries in developing the program. We hope you’ll visit their display.

One other part of the energy summit that is worthy of discussion is the fact that this event, now in its tenth year, draws guests from around country. We’ll have visitors from Houston, Dallas and Oklahoma throughout the week, as well as Midland, Odessa, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. In looking over the list of RSVP’s we’ve received this year, we have numerous smaller companies who are attending the summit because they are looking into investing into our area. One of the primary goals of the energy summit has always been to bring everyone together under one roof to discuss our current situation and what we can expect to see in the future. We have some leading experts this year, and we look forward to hearing what they have to say.

We welcome all of our guests to Carlsbad, and hope they have a great visit this week.

Sincerely, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
