Update 10-16-22

You may have noticed a few changes to the golf course area around the Municipal Course’s Pro Shop on Muscatel. Many more developments are on the way as we begin working on the City’s new municipal putt putt golf course. It’s been quite a while since Carlsbad’s previous mini golf course, which was run privately, shut down.

Thank you to Carlsbad’s City Council for supporting this project. We’re extremely excited about this development, and we know it is something that members of the community have been asking about for years. One of our commitments is to continue to provide additional recreational services to serve our community. Additions such as pickleball, volleyball and basketball have been extremely popular, and we believe putt putt will be a lot of fun for local families. It will also help with Carlsbad’s tourism.

Harris Mini Golf put together the original design for the course, which is going to begin just outside of the Pro Shop and wind around the building. It’s a beautiful design that takes into account the changes in elevation.  Adjustments to the nearby Par 3 course will be minimal.

Pecos Valley Construction and Murrill Electric are the contractors for this project. After the first phase of construction, we plan to add some additional elements to make the course unique to Carlsbad. It’s still in development, but you can probably expect to see some combination of bats, caverns and, of course,  Cavemen and Cavegirls. Some details are still being worked out, but admission (including club and ball rental) will be handled through the Pro Shop during regular business hours.

We know how much trees are appreciated in Carlsbad, and we do want to reassure everyone that some of the trees at this location have been transplanted, while others will be replaced with new trees in the area. We’re soon going to be presenting information about this project to groups around town, beginning with our student advisory committee members in a few weeks.  We look forward to sharing more photos and information as this project continues to develop.

Speaking of pickleball, congratulations to the Faith Hope & Love’s successful Brittany’s Day fundraiser, which took place on Oct. 14. On that day, Java Nick’s Coffee Hut sold cupcakes and “Hope” jewelry from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year, the fundraiser also included a pickleball tournament and coaching clinic, which ran from Oct. 13 through Oct. 16. This was a great way to raise more money for a local charity that helps families battling cancer.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
