Update 6-28-22

While we’re all excited about the fireworks show and parade on the Fourth of July, we do want to call your attention to a few of the activities happening on July 3 this year. That will be the part of our two-day celebration. Our musical entertainment that day will include DJ G Money, DJ Malory Anaya, Mariachi Unido and the River Bed. Our headliner will be Sonny Throckmorton and the Orange Beach Band. This year Throckmorton, a Carlsbad native, is receiving the prestigious Academy of Country Music Poet’s Award. As we’ve discussed in previous updates, he’s written thousands of songs, including an incredible list of hits. He’s an extremely talented musician and artist.

Dianne Joop and Creative Carlsbad have also been working with the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce to organize a “Legacy” boat ride on Sunday night. As soon as Throckmorton stops playing, he and other community legacies will head over to the boat docks on the beach side and be introduced as they travel up the river.

The electric boat parade along the river will follow. The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce helped organize this part of the event. Local residents have decorated their boats with lights to help make the celebration special.

We hope you and your family will join us in the bandshell and beach area on Sunday evening to enjoy Sonny Throckmorton and the electric boat parade.

You’ll see another phase of our Neighborhood Rehabilitation Program going on throughout the next week. This is a repaving (MicroSeal) effort that will touch up in different neighborhoods across Carlsbad. The turnaround is usually pretty quick- meaning closures will only last a few hours.

Current projects are taking place off of Halagueno Street, Guadalupe Street, Lake Street, Mesquite Street and on Avenue C. We appreciate your patience as we work on these upgrades.

Just a reminder that the City of Carlsbad will be offering free transit rides on the Fourth of July. Rides will be from 2-10 p.m. between the Cascades parking lot and the Beach area. You don’t have to make any sort of reservation. We know that the beach area will fill up on Monday and we want to help make sure everyone is able to make it to the best viewing area for this year’s fireworks show.

Our transit system normally operates Monday through Friday. We have both a fixed route and a demand system. If you have any questions about out transit service, please visit https://cityofcarlsbadnm.com/departments/community-development/carlsbad-municipal-transit-system/
