Arbor Day Foundation Names Carlsbad Tree City USA

Carlsbad, New Mexico was named a 2022 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The City of Carlsbad’s Tree Board will hold a small ceremony at 4 p.m. March 15 in front of the pickleball courts off of Park Drive. The public is invited to attend.

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway will read a proclamation and members of the Tree Board will examine newly planted trees in the area.

Carlsbad achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“Congratulations to Dave Rogers and all of the members of our Tree Board, as well as our Parks Director Michael Hernandez” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway. “Carlsbad is fortunate to have so many beautiful parks, and we all need to keep working hard with maintaining those parks. That means taking good care of our current trees and planting new ones on a regular basis.”
