Update 2-15-22

We’ve got some great news related to the future of health care in Carlsbad. Cardiologist Dr. Amanda Ryan, in partnership with Clay and Linda Wilson, is in the process of opening up a new surgical center called Surgical Suites of Carlsbad that will specialize in heart and blood vessel health care.

The 13,500 square foot business will be located within the new Skyline Drive development in north Carlsbad (at the intersection of Skyline Drive and U.S. 285). Permits for the building have already been completed, and materials have been ordered. Dr. Ryan expects that the facility will open early next year.

In the meantime, Dr. Ryan’s cardiology practice will become independent effective May 1, 2022, and the Advanced Heart and Vascular Center of New Mexico will operate out of a temporary office at 2405 W. Pierce Street. Patients who wish to remain with her should request a records transfer. A web page is in development.

We had a great conversation with Dr. Ryan about the vision she and the Wilsons have for the future of this surgical center. Their goal is to provide wide-ranging treatment options that are affordable and accessible. They also want to use new technological developments to provide high quality services in Carlsbad. As an example of technological improvements, Dr. Ryan mentioned that robot computer technology is being utilized in healthcare from virtual visits to acute stroke care to treating blood clots (rates have increased dramatically during Covid).

The goal is for people from around the region to come to their surgical center for procedures – instead of residents from here leaving for Lubbock or El Paso. This “Regional Center of Excellence”- aims to provide high quality care to residents of Carlsbad, Artesia and Hobbs.

Services will include echocardiograms, cardiac stress testing, radial cardiac catherization with stents, basic cardiology evaluations, and peripheral vascular interventions (to the legs).

Dr. Ryan, who graduated from the Kansas City University of Medicine & Bioscience College of Osteopathic Med in 2003, has a great track record in Carlsbad and is well respected by her peers and patients. She’ll be joined by experienced nurse practitioner Jennifer Tupper and will continue collaborating with Elizabeth Madison.

Once complete, this new facility will include an 8500 sq. foot surgical center allowing for a catherization laboratory and operating room, while leaving room for another room for minor procedures. The remaining 5000 sq. foot will house her cardiovascular office practice.  There will also be space to expand, if needed.

We’re very happy to see the additional of medical care opportunities in Carlsbad, especially under the direction of a well-respected professional such as Dr. Ryan.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
