Update 2-14-22

The Carlsbad Fire Department did an excellent job with the controlled burn on Friday and Saturday that took place along Dark Canyon Draw. Controlled burns are a very important tool for protecting homes, apartments and businesses along areas with overgrown brush.  Controlled burns have a number of advantages, including keeping any fires in the area from getting out of control. Extensive effort was made to make certain that no individuals or pets were in any of the areas being burned.

The fire department will be patrolling the area for several days to check up on the areas.

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce’s Age Friendly Committee had a great weekend. We were told that the organization’s first Valentine’s Day dance for seniors was a huge success. Special thanks to DJ Jose Ornelas for bringing music and a light show to the event. Thank you to Jeannie Watson for all of her effort organizing this event.

Cal’s Shade Western also had a big weekend – the local establishment held a fundraiser – including a car show- to purchase an electric wheelchair for a local resident. Thank you for all of your support.

Finally, Carlsbad’s Rotary Club completed another Pancake Breakfast on Saturday at the Carlsbad High School Cafeteria. More than 1,000 pancakes were served through drive-thru and dine in. XTO Energy helped sponsor the event, which featured a live performance by the Carlsbad High School Jazz Band.
