Update 1-18-22

New rapid at-home antigen tests may help provide some relief on the COVID-19 testing front. According to a press release from the state, more than 400,000 tests have been obtained and are being distributed to emergency managers across New Mexico. A mail order home test program is also being made available to the public. We will update you on how these tests will be made available when we receive additional information.

Home tests can be completed in about 15 minutes.  For more information on home testing, please visit https://cv.nmhealth.org/selftest/

Congratulations to Carlsbad MainStreet, who is a recipient of a $40,000 grant through the New Mexico MainStreet and New Mexico Economic Development Department. These grant funds will go toward the development of Cultural Economic Development Plan.

Overall, $2.5 million was awarded for projects across the state, which must demonstrate an economic impact on the local economy.

There have been some recent new developments on the business front. WIPP Communications Director Donavan Mager and his fiancée, Patty Boulware, who has been a businesswoman in the area for more than ten years, are changing the landscape at 314 N. Halagueno St. They are calling it Agave Plaza, and it will house different food trucks and offer family fun. Tiki Tops Coffee shop is the first tenant on the property, and additional options are being added to the menu. They are also adding an ice and water machine to the property. Future plans include a stage for weekly musical entertainment and- during Phase 2- a wine bar and bistro at 312 Halagueno. Across the street, the couple has purchased another property that will offer space for meetings and receptions. Congratulations to Donavan and Patty on their new business venture.

Harold Klaus, who runs Carlsbad Small Engine on Church Street, also has been plans for property next to his business. We’ll be getting more information soon.
