Update 11-20-21

One of our recent goals has been to add additional outdoor recreational facilities to Carlsbad. The projects are a relatively low cost way of adding some amenities. We have also been very blessed to have a number of local businesses- such as Clint Cone with Sendero, Anthony Foreman with AR Foreman Construction, the BLM, Steven McCutcheon, NWP, Mosaic and others – provide support for the construction of our outdoor services.  Last year, we were especially proud of the pickleball and volleyball courts that were added to the Carlsbad Beach area.

There’s a lot left to do- and two of our upcoming projects will involve adding more recreational facilities around the beach area. The Lake Carlsbad Recreational Area is one of the gems of Carlsbad – and we want to take advantage of this beautiful park space. First, we’re going to be putting in a basketball court near the volleyball courts. The basketball courts that were added to Smith Park a few years ago are extremely popular, so we know that some additional courts will be well used. We’re also going to install permanent cornhole boards at the beach area near the basketball courts. We also have plans to add another set of public restrooms to this area.

Additionally, we’re planning to add two half-soccer fields at the northern end of the park, to the west side near the end of Riverside Drive.  We are working out the details for these fields, but we know they will be put to good use as well. We’ve had many members of the community contact us and ask about adding additional recreational fields for adults in particular.

One of the biggest success stories in Carlsbad over the past few years has been the restoration of treatment and behavioral health alternatives.

The Villa de Esperanza program under Carlsbad LifeHouse, Inc. has been awarded its 3-Year Accreditation from CARF International. This program helps men and women recover from drug and alcohol addiction, and this accreditation is the culmination of many years of hard work. LifeHouse also operates the Avalon program for women to attend rehab with their children and that program will be eligible for a CARF Accreditation Survey in 2022. Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you for all of your hard work.

Finally, we wish to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Jane Frost, who served on our Pecos River Committee and who was highly involved in the community for many years. Jane passed away earlier this week and she will be missed.
