Update 6-1-23

There will be a number of very special activities held in Carlsbad this Saturday (June 3), and we hope you can make all of them.

In the morning, Chef Andrea Armstrong with Brunch Me Please will have a ribbon cutting for her new food truck. She’ll be set up at the Eddy County Courthouse Lawn, and the ceremony is planned for 9 a.m. Andrea came to Carlsbad working as a chef for one of the larger man camps. Ultimately, she decided to go her own way, and she has been extremely successful, both through her food truck and through her event catering business. She offers high quality food at every event, and she has also been active in the community through the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.

Carlsbad’s annual Car-A-Fair will actually begin on Friday, June 2, but will also be taking place all day Saturday as well at the Pecos River Beach Bandshell. There will be DJ music, food vendors, games for kids and one of the largest car shows for hundreds of miles. Trophies will be awarded on Saturday afternoon. Every year, this event continues to grow and draw more visitors to Carlsbad. It’s hosted by the Carlsbad Automotive Restoration Society, a nonprofit car club dedicated to preserving and restoring old cars. Carlsbad has a great history of being a “car” community, dating back to legends such as Dick Harrell and Sonny Ward.

Finally, join us at the Carlsbad Museum on Saturday at 5 p.m. for the opening reception of “One Drip at a Time: A Centennial Celebration.”  The Museum has been working closely with Carlsbad Caverns National Park to develop this exhibit, which is taking place during the Caverns’ 100 anniversary. It’s a great exhibit because it includes art, history and science of the Caverns. The museum is especially proud of its collection of Will Shuster paintings, as it took a lot of hard work to bring everything together. There’s also an exhibit featuring items that have been left behind at the Caverns.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, special guest speaker Lois Manno will be speaking at the museum. Manno is a caver with more than 40 years of experience who has volunteered at the national park for nearly three decades. She is the author of the book “Visions Underground: Carlsbad Caverns Through the Artist’s Eye.” She’s also a professional artist who served as curator of the park’s art and photography collection.

We hope you’ll join us for another busy weekend in Carlsbad.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
