On Friday, United Pump and Supply is celebrating a grand opening of its new location in Carlsbad (402 S. Canyon). This is a company originally out of Odessa, Texas, with a great family history of people working hard and the business expanding. It is companies such as United Pump & Supply who help pay our state budget and help our country achieve energy independence. We’re proud to welcome them to their new location in Carlsbad, and we look forward to working with them.

Just a reminder, if you hear a loud siren around town on the first Wednesday of the month, please do not panic. That’s the monthly testing of our advance weather warning system. The idea of these sirens is that, should you hear one outside in or near city limits, it means you should get inside due to severe weather being on its way.  The sirens are tested once a month to make certain they are still functional.

Mark Bollinger has been named as the permanent Carlsbad Field Office Manager of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. Bollinger was previously serving as acting manager. Mark joined CBFO in 2021 as deputy manager. This was an excellent decision on the part of the Department of Energy, as Mark brings 30 years of experience to the role.

Mark began his career in the office of EM in 1992. He holds a Master of Science in environmental science from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree in biology from IU. He is highly regarded by WIPP’s regulatory agencies, by members of the community, and by other officials with the Department of Energy.

We have enjoyed working closely with him on a variety of WIPP and community projects over the past few years.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
