Last week, Devon Energy provided a special recognition in memory of a greatly missed resident. Carroll Caudill, who passed away on Feb. 3, received Devon’s “Hometown Heroes” award. Caudill had been a Devon employee who previously served ten years in the army military police and became a sergeant. He later joined the Eddy County Sheriff’s Department and ultimately became commander of the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force. He ended his career at Devon as an investigator/security specialist.
Carroll’s family attended the award ceremony in order to honor his legacy, including his son-in-law, Cole Norby, his daughter, Misty Norby, his wife Carolyn and their son Kiah.
Devon Hometown Heroes are named once a quarter. Nominees must serve in an emergency response role in Eddy or Lea County. Nominations can be made to www.devonenergy.com/hometownheroes.

What are your family’s daycare needs? Katie Gomez, who runs Carlsbad’s “The Sunnyside Daycare,” has created a survey to help everyone get a better understanding of daycare needs in Carlsbad and the surrounding area. Gomez is part of a group looking into adding daycare options in Carlsbad. The local potash mines and the Department of Energy are also participating in this discussion, as the daycare issue is closely related to the ability to recruit and retain workforce. Please complete the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HW5XXWH to help with this important effort.

We wanted to again offer our condolences to the family and friends of Loretta Forbes, who passed away earlier this month. Loretta was very active in the arts community, and her works are on display at the Artist Gallery Downtown. She was also involved in activities as the senior center and volunteered to help animals. She’s greatly missed.
Sincerely,
Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
