The 2023 Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is just around the corner, and we wanted to update you on some important developments.
This year’s breakfast will be at the civic center the morning of May 4, which is also National Day of Prayer. The breakfast is being organized by a local committee with Gabe Rubio (Oasis Church) serving as chairman. The Prayer Breakfast has a lengthy history in Carlsbad. It was brought back by Ron Griffith, who ran it for many years. After Griffith passed away, a local group of volunteers brought the event back in 2022. We appreciate all of their hard work.
We’re very honored to report that Christian musician Danny Gokey will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. Gokey was the third place finalist on the eighth season of American Idol. He began his career in country music but later gravitated toward pop/contemporary Christian. He’s recently released his eighth album.
We’re also pleased to announce that attendance for this year’s prayer breakfast will be free. All we ask is that you reserve a ticket in advance, so that we know how many people to expect. In order to provide this free attendance, we are in the process of looking for several sponsors to make this positive community event possible. There will be special reserved tables for the sponsors, and they will receive special recognition in the program. If you know of a business or organization looking for a way to contribute positively to the community, we hope you’ll consider this event. The event volunteers are currently in the process of reaching out to local businesses and community members about possibly sponsorship.
While Gokey will be the event’s keynote, and will also perform several songs, several local pastors will also be assisting with the worship throughout the morning. Typically, the prayer breakfast includes special prayers for the city, for the state and for the nation. Additionally, this year, the committee is adding a moment where people attending can pray with those around them.
How can you help? As we stated, the organizers are still looking for several more sponsors to offset the cost of the speaker fee and food costs. Additionally, we hope you’ll let the committee know you plan on attending by reserving a ticket space.
