It’s one of the busiest weeks of the year in Carlsbad, as Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations will be taking place all around town.
On Saturday, Nov. 26, the Elf Fun Run will begin at 3 p.m. This race will serve as a fundraiser for the United Way and is being hosted by Creative Carlsbad/Pearl of the Pecos this year. You will be able to register onsite beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Creative Carlsbad’s Night of Lights will begin at 4 p.m. at the Halagueno Arts Park. A short opening ceremony will be followed with a performance by “Accidental Harmony” followed by the Early College High School Choir. The cheer squad, the dance team and Just Dance will then take over with performances of their own. The community tree will be lit at 6:50 p.m. with Electric Light Parade to follow right afterwards.
The parade, organized by Carlsbad MainStreet and Keep Carlsbad Beautiful, will begin at 7 p.m. atthe intersection of Mermod and Alameda Streets. The parade will wind past the Eddy County Courthouse and conclude at the Carlsbad Beach area. To register, please contact (575) 628-3768. This year’s theme is the movie “Elf.”
Night of Lights and the Light Parade aren’t the only holiday events in town. On Nov. 25 and 26, from 5-10 p.m., the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce will be hosting “Shopping Under the Stars” at the Christmas Village (711) Muscatel. This will be a kickoff to the Christmas on the Pecos season.
Right next door, the annual Calico Christmas Craft Show will be taking place all day Nov. 25 and 26 at the Pecos River Village Conference Center. The event will run until 6 p.m. on the 25th and 4 p.m. on the 26th. This is a full craft show where artists are required to make their own crafts. Calico Christmas is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and admission is free.
The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park Gift Shop will also be recognizing “Small Business Saturday” on Nov. 26.
Shopping activities aren’t the only thing going on this week. The Trinity Hotel will be hosting its annual free Thanksgiving blessing dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 23. Thank you to the Balzanos for always hosting this generous activity.
The Carlsbad Wind Symphony and the Carlsbad Chorale will be hosting a Holiday Concert on November 29 at 7pm at the PR Leyva Auditorium. This performance is also free, and we hope you’ll be able to make it.
These are just a few of the many activities going on around Carlsbad this week, and even more are coming up soon. Sincerely,
Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
