Update 10-9-22

There’s just over a week left before this year’s energy summit, and we hope you’ll make plans to join us at the civic center annex from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20.
It’s our tenth anniversary, and we’ve received the highest number of sponsors yet for this important educational event. We have companies and elected officials from around the state and country coming to Carlsbad to participate this year. The first Carlsbad Energy Summit, in 2013, was organized after discussing the significant increase of oil and gas presence in Carlsbad and the surrounding area. That presence has continued to increase in the decade since. While we have addressed other energy issues in the past, the focus of our summit is on oil and gas, as that is certainly one of our community’s key resources. Carlsbad is at the heart of domestic production.
One of the highlights of this year’s event is that we’re going to have two excellent panel discussions, one involving our trade associations and the other involving leading oil and gas companies in the area. Missi Currier and Allen Davis will lead those discussions, while Danny fletcher will be our master of ceremonies.
Crestwood Midstream Partners will lead our Midstream discussion, while CRI will address employment issues. Hanson Yates, with Santo Petroleum, will be providing a history lesson on oil and gas in Eddy County.
Right before lunch, Robert G. Schwiers Jr., who is the Chief Economist for Chevron’s Strategy and Sustainability Department, will provide an overview on the future of the Delaware Basin.
We’re especially excited about having weatherman Steve Stucker joining us as a special guest. Each year, we try to have one special presenter during our lunch. Stucker is New Mexico’s weatherman on Eyewitness News 4, which he’s done for more than 30 years. He’s well known for his appearance at the Balloon Fiesta, for his Parade of Pets, for his community service and for being one of New Mexico’s friendliest people. We’re honored to have Steve joining us.
Lunch will be Lynne and Kim Ballard’s famous steaks, with Sheriff Mark Cage and many members of the Eddy County Sheriff’s Posse helping prepare the meals. This is our signature meal that helps make this a unique Carlsbad event. Many community groups assist us every year with this event, including Eddy County, the Carlsbad Community Foundation, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and the Carlsbad Department of Development. It’s great to have everyone come together.
Attendance at the summit is free, thanks to all of our sponsors, and a great lunch will be served. We hope you’ll register with us at https://carlsbadfoundation.org/summit. A complete agenda is also available at that site, as well as bios of all of our speakers.
We hope you’ll come join us this year.
Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
