Update 9-13-22

Multiple 16th of September celebrations are planned for the weekend.

LULAC is hosting a 16th of September Fiesta at the beach bandshell from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 17. This event will include a 10 a.m. parade from the Carlsbad Prep Academy down to the Cascades parking lot. There will be a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the beach bandshell to kick off the day of celebration.

EZ Duz It Entertainment is holding a Fiesta event at the Ray Anaya San Jose Plaza from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18. This group has also organized a 9 a.m. parade on Saturday from the Carlsbad Municipal School administration building to the San Jose Plaza.

Carlsbad’s Fiesta celebrations will include food vendors, music, games and much more. So many Carlsbad residents have fond memories of the fiesta celebrations from their childhoods, and there’s a lot of interest in seeing these events continue to grow. We appreciate all of the hard work that went into providing these activities for Carlsbad residents and visiting guests.

It’s also an extremely busy sports week in Carlsbad. On Tuesday night, we have soccer against Artesia, two junior high football games and volleyball in Lovington. Thursday’s list includes 9th grade football, 8th grade volleyball and a home high school volleyball game. Our soccer teams are very busy all weekend at a major tournament in Las Cruces. The boys soccer team is currently 5-5-1, while the girls have a record of 5-2-3, having most recently tied Hobbs, 1-1.

and the Cavemen and Cavegirls are hosting a cross country meet on Saturday. The Cavemen varsity football team plays at Roswell on Friday. The volleyball team has another home game on Saturday against Organ Mountain.

Carlsbad Municipal Schools does a great job publishing all of its athletic and extracurricular events on the school district’s web page: https://www.carlsbadschools.net/. Special thanks to athletic director Greg Haston and all members of the athletic department staff for all of their hard work organizing these schedules.

Do you know someone who is a hardworking oilfield worker? Please consider nominating them for the “Spirit of the Oilfield” awards. Nomination information is available at https://carlsbadfoundation.org. The selections in the past have always been individuals who are dedicated at all times to their family, their career, and this community. It has always been an honor to get to meet our annual “Spirit of the Oilfield” recipients each year as part of our energy summit. This year’s nomination process runs through September.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
