What a great weekend for Carlsbad! There’s probably too much to fit into one update,
As most people have heard, the Carlsbad Cavemen and Carlsbad Cavegirls won state titles in baseball and softball. The Cavemen did it with a 7-0 win over Sandia. The Cavegirls came back strong to beat Las Cruces Centennial, 13-6. Both teams received warm welcomes when they made it back to Carlsbad late Saturday and early Sunday.
Since we’ve had multiple people ask, this is the first time both the boys and girls have won a state title at the same time since 2002. Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding season. It was the 17th state title for the boys and the 12th for the girls. Both teams overcame hardships, including sickness and injury, to get to this point.
Carlsbad also had a strong showing at this year’s state track tournament. We have reached out to coaches, and we will provide additional information on this and other weekend accomplishments.
In Major League Baseball, Trevor Rogers also picked up his second win of the season on Saturday. Rogers pitched 5.1 innings and gave up five hits on eight strikeouts. The win over Milwaukee brought his earned run average down to 4.45.

We also had a great time at the Art in the Park celebration Saturday at Halagueno Arts Park. If you weren’t able to make it this weekend, please visit the beautiful park to check out some of the newest works of art on display, including the Four Elements by Wren Prather-Stroud, “Channeling Frank Kindel” by Barrett DeBusk and the outstanding nursery area, which includes a variety of animals in front of the park’s stage. It’s nice to have a park where so many continued improvements are made, and thanks again to our Fine Arts and Acquisition Committee for all of the hard work.
