Update 12-4-21

Carlsbad has the best Christmas show in the state- that’s according to the website “Only In Your State”- who recently published a profile on the Land of Enchantment. Christmas on the Pecos landed Carlsbad the No. 1 spot on the “Most Enchanting, Magical Christmas Towns in New Mexico,” list, compiled by one of the magazine’s writers.  Albuquerque and Los Alamos are second and third. You can view the whole lineup here: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/new-mexico/christmas-towns-nm/. Christmas on the Pecos has been going very well this year, and we’ve already received a lot of great feedback.

Special thanks to Wendy Austin, who has moved on to other opportunities after working with the City of Carlsbad since 2016.

Wendy was the City of Carlsbad’s financial expert, but she was a lot more than that. She was such a talented financial expert that she was often called on as an expert witness during the legislative session. She also did a lot more than just finance for the city- and Wendy excelled at everything she did, whether it was editing, handling employee issues, presenting to senators or leading the way with complex IT and financial system transactions- Wendy was always one of our MVP’s.

Wendy also played a key role in getting two bills passed – one related to lodger’s tax reform and the other achieving independence of Carlsbad’s college. She served as a key witness during numerous committee hearings as she helped get these bills passed.

We’re excited about having a big name concert planned at the Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center this spring. Country artist Parker McCollum will be performing here on March 24. You’ll be able to order tickets through www.parkermccolum.com

Parker is a country singer based in Austin, Texas. He released his first full length album, “The Limestone Kid,” in 2015. His album “Probably Wrong: Session 1” came out in 2017 and made the Billboard charts.

Congratulations to Sgt. Andrew Carver with the Carlsbad Police Department Community Services Division. Sgt. Carver was selected as the Carlsbad Police Department’s award recipient during the upcoming “Cavemen Strong” event Dec. 8. He has been a key figure and driving force behind the Shop with a Hero program and works closely with the local school system. We’re looking at the largest Shop with a Hero program we’ve ever had, and that’s partially due to his efforts.

Sincerely, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
