Concert Update 8-30-21

Olga Dominguez and Cipriano Anaya set a new record in terms of attendance at our Summer Concert Series this past Saturday. The duo performed in front of a great audience and everyone seemed to have a good time.  Our summer concert series will continue next Saturday (Sept. 4)  with a performance by “The River Bend,” which consists of Ethan Cole and Silas Clark. Ethan and Silas had previously performed in Carlsbad, so when one of our other performances fell through, we felt this would be a good fit for a return trip.  Thank you again to Brandon Chandler for sponsoring this event.

Weekend attendance at the Carlsbad Water Park has also remained high throughout September.  We’re pleased to announce that we will have the Carlsbad Water Park open for all three days during the upcoming Labor Day weekend – Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We will also continue to keep the water park open on weekends following Labor Day.

We won’t have a summer concert series performance at the water park gazebo on Sept. 11, but Stranded will be performing Sept. 10 from 7-9 p.m. downtown.  Creative Carlsbad will also be giving tours of the Cavern Theatre that night and we will have a beer garden set up, as well as several food trucks.  Unfortunately, the concert overlaps with our annual Homecoming game – we were just not able to work around that due to several schedule conflicts. So, we hope you will join us at either the concert or the football game, or even both.

We have been informed by Southwestern Public Service that the company will be working on power lines between Sept. 1 and Sept. 3. A portion of South Canal Street near Fiesta Drive will be limited to one lane in either direction during this time. The road may also be blocked for brief intervals for specific repairs, but will be re-opened quickly. Please plan accordingly when travelling and follow all posted safety notices. Thank you.

COVID-19 update: There were 111 vaccines given out at the civic center clinic on Monday. Additional vaccines will be offered again at this location from 8-11 a.m. this upcoming Friday. Thank you again to the NM Department of Health, the City and Eddy County for this partnership. The New Mexico Department of Health currently reports a 43.2 percent vaccination rate for Eddy County residents 18 and over. Carlsbad Medical Center reports 15 patients hospitalized for COVID-19, including four in the ICU.  We will continue to provide more updates as the information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
