Update 8-9-21

There’s a new restaurant in downtown Carlsbad, and it is receiving great reviews. Owners Troy and Raven Millro have been in Carlsbad for several years, but they are bringing their Louisiana cooking style to Carlsbad. Sunday’s special was a heaping plate of crawfish etouffee.

The “This-n-That” Kitchen is located at 110 N. Canyon Street. In addition to outstanding Cajun food, they are also serving a wide variety of cereal-based desserts. You can order an ice cream sunday mixed with your choice of cereal, for example. Right now, they are open six days a week (closed on Mondays) and are also doing to-go orders. For more information, please call (575) 234-9569 or visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/This-N-That-Kitchen-102566182085561

Best of luck to Troy and Raven.

Last week, the Carlsbad Department of Development presented awards to some very deserving recipients. Jody Knox and Lakeview received a special “Endeavor to Persevere” award for their successful handling of the merger with Landsun and all of the additional efforts they had to put forth due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dave Sepich and Susan Crockett presented this award. George Dunagan received a well-deserved lifetime achievement award for his support of economic development, with Mike Garringer presenting.

Danny Cross presented the “Neighborhood Investment” award to the Volpato family, while Arrowstone Apartments received a “Community Investment” award from Craig Stephens. Crockett also presented the “Business Diversification” award to Intrepid Potash. Delta Constructors received the “Corporate Investment” award, with Wayne Ballard as the presenter. CNB Bank and Jay Jenkins received the “Business Expansion” award, presented by Valerie Murrill. The bank’s new branch on the south side of town is very beautiful.

Finally, Eddy County Manager Al Davis presented the “Community Crusader” award to the county’s emergency manager, Jennifer Armendariz, who has been instrumental in efforts such as COVID-19 relief and flood recovery. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients. We will work closely with the Carlsbad Department of Development and incoming board president Paul Shoemaker in looking for more opportunities for this community.

Alberto Madrid did a great job as the performer at our Summer Concert Series this past weekend. Special thanks to Olga Dominguez, who both helped us schedule the event and sang several songs Saturday night. This upcoming Saturday, from 7-9 p.m., Charlie Ingraham will be performing at the Water Park Gazebo. Please bring your lawn chairs and come enjoy this upbeat Texas Country sound. As a reminder, these concerts are being held at the new gazebo near the water park, not at the beach bandshell.

It was a busy night Saturday in Carlsbad as there was also a very successful beach volleyball tournament going on.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
