Due to elevated levels of bacteria caused by this week’s rains, the Lake Carlsbad public swimming area will remain closed for public use on July 2, 2021. This decision is only related to the swimming area itself – all other park areas remain open. New samples are being taken, and the City will make a decision as to whether or not to open the swimming area again on the morning of July 3.
Other portions of Lake Carlsbad with faster running water show significantly lower bacteria counts. While boating on the river is not prohibited, boaters are strongly advised to remain on the lookout for debris.
The Carlsbad Water Park will remain open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the entire week, and the City’s beach area splash pad also remains open to the public.
