CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS: WARD 2
Mrs. Nunley was born and raised in Carlsbad. Her parents Whit and Leona Smith were long time residents of Carlsbad. Her father retired from the Potash Company of America after working there for over 43 years. Her mother was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Nunley graduated form Carlsbad Senior High School in 1971. She recieved her Bachelor's Degree in eduaction from New Mexico State University and earned a Masters' Degree in Mid-Level Management from the Univeristy of Houston - Clear Lake. Mrs. Nunley has been in the education field for over 34 years and is currently the principal at Eddy Elementary School. Mrs. Nunley is married to Van Nunley and and they have two children and a granddaughter. Van Nunley Jr. is employed at the CARC farm as a vocational instructor. Their daughter Sarah is a graduate student at Arizona State University. |

Richard Graves Jr.

Richard L Graves was born in Redondo Beach, CA, raised by his paternal grandfather on a ranch in central South Dakota. Joined the United States Marine Corps after one year in college studying corporate law. Served 10 years in the USMC, mostly in the Far and Middle East as well as South East Asia. Richard was attached to the Marine Aircraft Group, Marine Corps fighter squadron, Marine Air Base Squadron 15, based primarily in Iwakuni, Japan. Having served also in Beirut, during the bombing of the USMC barracks, on October 23rd, 2003, numerous airbases in South Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, where he also was in combat against Muslim Terrorists in that country. After Military life, Richard worked in the Corrections Dept at the SD State Penitentiary, also Gateway Computers until the company went under. Richard and his wife Joyce, married 7 years moved to the Carlsbad area in 2005. His wife was originally from Carlsbad and still has family here. Richard has worked for almost the entire time in Carlsbad for the Washington Tru Solutions/URS company, which overseas operations of the WIPP facility under the Department of Energy. Having years of computer, instrumentation skills and schooling, he was able to obtain a position in the Instrumentation and Controls Maintenance Dept. He is also skilled in aspects of Radiation Dosimitry. This is Richards first term as City Councilor for Ward 2. He is focused and dedicated to the improvement of life for all citizens in the city, especially Ward 2. Richard approaches everything he does with all the honor, integrity, pride and patriotism instilled in him by his grandfather and the United States Marine Corps and the Constitution of the United States. Richard supports all Veterans and works to improve treatment and services for Veterans. Richard is also very interested and involved in resolving the issues within the current city infrastructure. Special interest in the Fire and Police Departments, as they are in the important positions of dealing with the citizens on a personal level. Mr. Graves will fully support the Mayor and other City Council Members indiscriminately on all issues, however he feels that his dedication is primarily for the best interests of the citizens of the great City of Carlsbad. Mr. Graves can be found cruising the streets in the neighborhoods in his Marine Corps, scarlet red car or his motorcycle. Any citizen in Ward 2 or any other city Ward is more than welcome to stop Mr. Graves and talk, express concerns and offer compliments or complaints. |
